Prologue and History

Since its establishment in 1997, Sign Industries Ltd. has brought about a revolution in Signage and allied products in Tanzania and introduced several modern concepts in the field of contemporary signage to the nation. The more common word then, was ‘Sign-writing’ that was done by craftsman which was a combination of manual screen printing, carpentry work and that of a tinsmith.

Our entry into the market abolished the stereotypes in manufacturing procedures as the same was being replaced with technology by Computer Aided Production. Whilst we were justifiably feeling excited and proud of our success, the poignant reality we realized was that technology had begun to replace talented artists and craftsmen who had inherited rich talents from their forefathers, and such artists and craftsmen were becoming endangered and side lined. As this scenario was developing into a reality and becoming inevitable, we decided to combat the sad situation in a positive way and thus embarked upon a training program to absorb and involve these talented local artisans in utilizing their skills in combination with technology, hence enabling them to keep them active and retain them in mainstream of business and production.

The result was overwhelmingly successful and eventually facilitated Sign Industries Ltd growth to a position of dominant market share. We also manifested and established a fact that those who were intimidated by sophistication and shunned from jumping on to the technology bandwagon would soon become obsolete and their life long experience would go down the drain as their position in market place will go out of the radar screen.

We feel proud in saying that we were the pioneers to incorporate computerized technology in our order processing and product output and to date we keep upgrading ourselves to keep in line with the latest available technology. As at current, we are most modernly equipped sign company employing talented designers and state of the art in digital and CNC machinery and high-end software.

In the early years of our establishment, we brought NEON signs which was a new concept in the country. NEON was a challenge as well as an opportunity and for almost two decades, we were the only company in the country to make NEON signs. sadly enough, by the end of 2010, we had to phase out on NEON manufacturing as it gradually began being replaced by LED lighting system and here also, we were the first one to adopt this new technology. Therefore, company owner and seniors from production were sent to Far East to get firsthand training in matters of LED systems and to date we regularly attend international training and seminars to keep ourselves current with new products and technology.

From the very beginning, we were passionate to bring new concept in signage which were not only modern by material but also appealing, practical and affordable and had a zeal to remain market leaders in matters of signage and branding and within a short time we realized that such dream was becoming a reality. As you look at our signs nationwide, we hope our dream is being realized before your own eyes, and we are eager to keep quality appealing signs as part of our lifestyle. We feel proud to say that we created a new trend in Corporate Culture.

We do not have competitors since we consider other sign makers as our colleagues sharing the same market and we are proud to say that we do extend help in materials and advice when ever asked for. But of course, our long and broad experience and international exposure and diversified ability has given us edge above the rest often viewed as unfair advantage envied by many.

Our current client base is the cream of corporate accounts which includes most banks, communication operators, utility providers, architects, builders, contractors and estate developers, interior designers and extends beyond retail business owners locally and up country.

Today, we are considered as an authority when it comes to signage and branding and we have been awarded nation’s most prestigious signage projects and earned the Tanzania TOP 100 business awards eight times in a row and national newspapers and reputed magazines have given us coverage and praised our products as world class standard.
